Maintaining Your Status
While studying in the United States, it is important to maintain your F or J student status. Maintaining your status includes checking in with your DSO upon arrival in the United States, updating your address within 10 business days of it changing, not participating in unauthorized work, and attending a full-time (20 hours a week) course schedule.
Always consult your DSO/International Student Advisor when you have questions about your status. Failing to maintain your status can result in the termination of your SEVIS record and may require immediate departure from the United States.
